Budget

Each year a budget for the city is created to provide direction for the upcoming fiscal year; the city of Mt Vernon’s fiscal year is May 1 to April 30. The budget details how the city’s funds will be invested in the community, for example, what repairs and improvements can be made. The City Manager, Assistant City Manager, Finance Director, and other department heads review upcoming projects, and department needs to ensure that available funds will be spent responsibly. Once a budget has been developed, it is put before the city council for approval.
