Parks Master Plan
The City of Mt. Vernon has officially adopted a Park Master Plan to guide the future of Veteran’s Memorial Park, Lincoln Park, and the potential development of a new indoor recreation center. This plan is built upon valuable community input and survey insights. With these priorities in mind, we will move forward with strategic improvements that enhance recreation, accessibility, and overall park experiences for residents and visitors.

Community Survey Results
We are excited to share the results of the Mt. Vernon Parks Master Plan Community Survey! We greatly appreciate the participation of our residents in shaping the future of our parks and recreation facilities. Your feedback plays a vital role in guiding the improvements at Veteran's Park, Lincoln Park, and the potential development of a new indoor recreation center.
Key Findings from the Survey:
Veteran's Park:
Support for Improvements: When asked about potential improvements, respondents showed strong support for:
- 81% supporting restroom improvements
- 80% supporting the addition of amenities along walking trails (benches, drinking fountains, exercise stations)
- 78% supporting pond beautification (lake edge planting, decorative boulders, fishing dock)
Top Priorities: The improvements selected as the most important included:
- 44% prioritized adding amenities along walking trails
- 34% prioritized extending the walking/biking trail
- 33% prioritized pond beautification improvements
Lincoln Park:
Support for Improvements: Respondents expressed the most support for the following additions and improvements:
- 67% supported adding picnic shelters/areas
- 67% supported adding restrooms
- 62% supported extending the walking/biking trail
Top Priorities: When asked to prioritize improvements, the most important selections were:
- 31% prioritized adding picnic shelters/areas
- 30% prioritized adding restrooms
- 28% prioritized extending the walking/biking trail
New Indoor Recreation Center:
Respondents were asked to select the features they would like to see in a new indoor recreation facility. The most requested features were:
- 82% supported an indoor running/walking track
- 74% supported lap lanes for swim lessons, exercise swimming, competitive swimming, or therapeutic purposes
- 73% supported space for aerobics, fitness, or gymnastics
Top Priorities: The features respondents said they would be most likely to use include:
- 46% selected an indoor running/walking track
- 33% selected lap lanes for swimming and related activities
- 30% selected aerobics/fitness/gymnastics space
