The City Council, made up of the Mayor and four elected members, sets policy and direction for the community.

Form of Government

Mayor & City Council
The Mayor and four Council Members are elected to four-year staggered terms and serve part-time while balancing other careers and family life.
Together, they set city policy, approve budgets, and make decisions that shape Mt. Vernon’s future.
City Manager
The City Manager directs city departments, prepares the annual budget, and implements City Council policies.
As the city’s chief administrator, the Manager ensures services are delivered efficiently and that operations align with community goals.

Council Meetings
City Council meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month at City Hall.
Meetings are open to the public and live streamed on the City of Mt. Vernon Facebook page.
Residents can view agendas, minutes, and the meeting calendar online at any time.
