The city of Mt. Vernon participates in an electric aggregation program to help lower electric rates for residents. Homefield Energy is the current electric supplier with a rate of $0.11789 per kWh.

Solicitations

During the warmer months, you may see sales representatives going door-to-door. Please note:

  • They are not associated with the City of Mt. Vernon.
  • Never share your account information with anyone claiming to represent the city.
  • All solicitors must have a City-issued permit, must carry and display it, and must respect "No Soliciting" signs. 
  • Soliciting is only allowed between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. and must leave when asked
  • If a solicitor does not have a permit or is out after dark, call the Police Department at 618-242-2727.

The city cannot deny a permit without valid cause and written complaints from residents.
