Ameren to Conduct Flaring Operations at I-57 & IL-15 in Mt. Vernon

Controlled Routine Process to Ensure Safety and Proper Gas Line Odorization Starting This Afternoon.

We wanted to make you aware that Ameren will be conducting flaring operations today, 08/20/24, at the intersection of I-57 & IL-15 in Mt. Vernon. Ameren recently installed approximately 2,300 feet of 6" pipe to resolve a conflict with a future IDOT improvement project in the area. Ameren will be pickling the line over the next week, to ensure that the gas line has the proper amount of odorant.

Ameren plans to start this process this afternoon. This is what can be expected:

  • Flaring is a part of the routine pickling process where they ensure that the gas line has the proper amount of odorant.

  • Flaring will be loud with a visible flame but is a controlled routine process that poses no threat to people or property.

  • The flare will be active for 4-6 hours today. Optimistically this will be the only time it happens. They may need to flare 1-3 other times for a shorter duration in the days following.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
