Warming Shelter Due to Close on Tuesday, January 7, 2025

Mt. Vernon, IL – January 6, 2025 – The warming shelter opened at the Rolland Lewis Community Building, 800 S. 27th Street, Mt. Vernon, will be closing on January 7, 2025, at 2:00 pm.  As of right now, the warming shelter has served three people since Sunday.  All those utilizing the shelter have found new accommodations.  If the need to keep the shelter open arises today or overnight, then the status will be reevaluated. Providing notice now will give the Red Cross the ability to reallocate their resources to other communities in need.

We would like to thank the Red Cross, Jefferson County EMA, Mt. Vernon EMA and all the volunteers for answering the call to assist those in need of a warm place to go during the recent weather event.
