Mt Vernon Police Department Announces 2024 Citizens Police Academy

The Mt Vernon Police Department is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated 2024 Citizens Police Academy, sponsored by Councilman Ray Botch. This one-day academy aims to provide an immersive experience for community members, offering an exclusive opportunity to gain insight into the world of law enforcement.

Scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 24th, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the Mt Vernon Police Department located at 600 South 27th Street, the Citizens Police Academy promises an engaging and informative curriculum. Participants will be immersed in a classroom environment where they will delve into various topics, including hiring procedures, dispatch operations, patrol strategies, detective division techniques, the High Risk Tactical Team, and Canine unit operations.

To provide an authentic experience, the academy will also feature guided tours of the police department facilities, allowing attendees to witness firsthand the inner workings of a modern law enforcement agency. Additionally, participants will have the unique opportunity to utilize our state-of-the-art virtual reality firearms trainer, gaining insight into the challenges faced by officers in high-pressure situations.
