The City of Mt. Vernon invests a significant amount of funding every year into projects to maintain and repair miles of city roads. The Streets Division of the Public Works Department performs maintenance to streets and alleys, including minor patches and potholes. Contractors are often hired for larger or more specialized projects.
While the city and its contractors do their best to keep roads safe and traffic moving, backups can still occur. Please plan ahead and consider using alternate routes. Below is a list of scheduled projects and temporary road closures.
Please note that this may not be a complete list of road projects as emergency repairs may come up.
The City of Mt. Vernon Public Works Department will conduct road patching on S. 42nd Street. The roadway will be closed to all thru-traffic, but local traffic will still be able to access businesses north or south of the patch location. The exact patching area is between the two Kroger driveway entrances on S. 42nd Street.
Dates: Tuesday, November 19th – Wednesday, November 20th, 2024
Time: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM daily
Local Access Information: Local traffic can access the Kroger from the South via the Pharmacy/Click List Pick Up entrance or the main entrance from the North.
Detour Route: Detour signs will be posted, directing traffic to use Mateer Drive and 44th Street as a bypass.
Caution in the Construction Zone:
Please follow all posted signs and instructions from workers for your safety and the safety of others. Plan your route accordingly to avoid delays.
